Young Muslims in the Netherlands fear forced marriages during summer break

Many young Dutch Muslims are afraid that they will be forced into a marriage during summer break and then left behind in the country of birth of their parents. The Moroccan-Dutch Member of Parliament Khadija Arib of the Labor Party says the problem is not a recent one and may be far greater than what the number of calls for help would seem to indicate. “This is a serious problem that has been an issue for years. Fact is that in the Netherlands, dozens of girls don’t return from summer break [in their country of origin]. I know for a fact that dozens and maybe even thousands are living in fear of being married off.”
