An investigation into an ‘unregistered school where concerns possible female genital mutilation took place’ is ongoing. Three men who were arrested remain on bail and have not been charged, police have confirmed.
The males, aged 32 and 61, were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the barbaric practice of FGM – a procedure where female genitals are deliberately cut, injured or changed. There is no medical reason for what is also known as female circumcision.
Police raided an undisclosed address in Birmingham on May 10 after concerns over “possible illegal practices” which may have taken place at an unregistered school. Officers, who were called by Ofsted inspectors investigating the school, said it understood ‘community concerns’.
