Fake News on Female Genital Mutilation
The online world is inundated with websites and social media campaigns that promote false information or dangerous ideas. Recently, we saw a campaign on promoting female genital mutilation (FGM) on Twitter under the guise of a different practice which is equally as harmful. These tactics are used to normalize and justify dangerous practices. We wrote this piece to explain five of the major justifications of FGM and why they are false.
