Ebola Epidemic Curbs FGM in Sierra Leone

Because FGM involves the release of bodily fluids, and because Ebola can be spread through contact with infected bodily fluids, the government of Sierra Leone decided to temporarily ban the practice in light of the recent epidemic. Advocates for the eradication of FGM believe that this could be an opportune moment to end the practice for good, but supporters believe it will return after the epidemic subsides.
