Dutch Cabinet Finds No Sharia Courts in Netherlands
A report prepared for Dutch Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin finds there are no sharia courts strictly speaking, although on receiving the report the minister cautioned there exist “advisory and disputes arbitration practices on the basis of sharia in the Netherlands”: Hirsch Ballin argues “the cabinet continues to see it as its task to ensure that no parallel society arises where people take the law into their own hands or maintain their own system of law existing outside the framework of our legal system”.
