In a debate on honour violence, Dutch Deputy Welfare Minister Marlies Veldhuijzen van Zanten has told parliament she has decided to earmark additional funds for the victims: a pilot involving two shelters which was originally scheduled to end this year will be extended indefinitely: since 2007, women and girls facing honour violence can seek refuge at the two shelters; one in the north and one in the south of the country. The minister said she wanted to use the experience gained at the two shelters to help identify victims’ problems at an early stage and to provide assistance to help them resume their normal lives.
