December 2023 Newsletter: In a dark year, your support for our anti-Islamism work is critical

As 2023 approaches its end, it is natural to look back and reflect on the year. It has been another dark and difficult one, unfortunately. The war in Israel and Gaza and the resurgence of anti-Semitism and Islamism are horrifying developments. The flame of liberty has flickered in 2023, and it could still be extinguished entirely.

Except that people like you give me hope.

Your support allows us to work with the anti-Islamist CLARITy Coalition, which AHA Foundation helped to set up and continues to fund, as one of the bulwarks of liberty against the tyranny of Islamism. Its work has never been more critical than it is now.

In our blog this month, one of CLARITy’s founding members, the ex-Muslim human rights activist Yasmine Mohammed, who has a family background in Palestine, reflects on the conflict in Israel. Her piece, ‘Mourning for Palestinians and Israelis’, was written just days after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 and it is both moving and essential to understanding the conflict. Meanwhile, illiberalism on college campuses this year has continued to threaten a key Western freedom: free speech. But your support has enabled AHA’s campus program fellows to keep championing freethinking on their campuses across our nation throughout 2023. One of these fellows, Widener Norris, is also featured in our blog this month. Young people like Widener give me hope for the future, and I am sure you will agree.
