Obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States are finding that as immigration from Africa increases, so do cases of FGM in the US. Performing FGM and sending a girl abroad to facilitate the practice are both illegal in the US. However, many African women immigrate after they have already been cut, and some parents still send their girls abroad to undergo the procedure.
