An Iraqi mother accused of beating her daughter in Phoenix for not going along with an arranged marriage has been sentenced to probation.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 51-year-old Yusra Farhan was sentenced Tuesday to two years of supervised probation with domestic violence terms.
She pleaded guilty last month to unlawful imprisonment.
Authorities say the 20-year-old woman was burned on her face and chest with a hot spoon after refusing to participate in an arranged marriage with a 38-year-old man. The victim was tied to a bed with a rope secured with a padlock until Feb. 8, when she was released to go to school.
