Forced marriage: Man pleads guilty to marrying 14-year-old girl in Noble Park
A man has pleaded guilty to marrying a 14-year-old girl in a forced marriage, after a charge alleging he also had sex with her was withdrawn by prosecutors.
The 34-year-old man cried at times during his appearance before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday, when he admitted taking part in a forced marriage in Noble Park on September 29 last year.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years in jail. But prosecutors withdrew two other charges, including a charge of sexual penetration of a child under 16, an offence which carries a maximum penalty of at least 10 years in jail. Read more here:
