Domestic abuse still a taboo in Turkey

Domestic abuse remains a taboo in Turkey, although the rate of abuse is high in both rural and urban parts of the country: laws meant to tackle abuse are not being adequately enforced in practice, and there is a woeful shortage of shelters for battered women.
