Iran has banned men and women from using educational facilities at the same time.

In line with its policy of introducing gender-segregation to every social environment, the Iranian government has banned men and women from using educational facilities at the same time. Men will be permitted access on some days and women on others. The directive applies in particular to libraries and research institutes.

Sexual violence in Egypt takes on a political dimension

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Cairo last Tuesday, demanding an end to endemic sexual violence in the country, following comments by one lawmaker that women victims of sexual assaults in Tahrir Square were “100% responsible”. France 24’s Cairo correspondent Sonia Dridi says “Under [former president Hosni] Mubarak, Egyptian women were aware of the risk of rape, but not to the point that they were afraid to walk the streets.”

A children’s play center in the UK has banned fathers from the premises to avoid offending Muslim women. Kids Go Wild is Britain’s first toddler group to introduce a women-only policy. Managers defended the decision, claiming that Muslim mothers welcomed it for “cultural reasons”.

The New York Times reporter, Patricia Leigh Brown, celebrates the event, but this type of gender segregation–encouraged by Islamist views–is not something worth celebrating, either in the United States or abroad.
