    • All Londoners have a duty to help in the fight against female genital mutilation as the “cutting season” approaches, British International Development Minister Lynne Featherstone has said.
    • Several hospital and community-based clinics in London help women who have suffered FGM (female genital mutilation), as well as one in Birmingham and another about to open in Bristol.
    • The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics reports that some 75 per cent of female genital mutilation (FGM) cases in Egypt are carried out by medical staff, according to the 2008 Demographic and Health Survey - up from just 17 per cent in 1996.
    • U.N. agencies have called for the prosecution of an Egyptian doctor after a 13-year-old girl died while undergoing female genital mutilation at a private clinic.
    • In Egypt, the death of a 13-year-old girl at a private clinic of female genital mutilation has once again highlighted that female genital mutilation continues to endanger lives despite laws forbidding the practice.
